and so much for trying to post from the road. True to form, I get going somewhere and start having such a good time I don't have time for sitting in front of the computer.
Needless to say, we had a great time and enjoyed all that New Orleans has to offer and then some. Highlights included a Domilise's Oyster Po Boy, doing a massive cannonball at the Gin Bowl pool party, oysters en brochette and brunch at Galatoire's, numerous leisurely French Qtr strolls, Red Beans and Rice at the Camellia Grill, riding the St. Charles Avenue street car, a tour of the lower 9th Ward and Brad Pitt's houses, getting stranded by a tropical rainstorm, drinks at the Cure, the Swizzle Stick, the Monkey HIll Bar, the Sazerac Bar, the Polo Lounge, a Gin Bowl redux at Iris, ogling the chapeaux and fashions at the Fleur de Paris on Royal Street and there's more. After wearing out NOLA we journeyed out to our hostess's family plantation, Cypremort. It's been in her family since the early 1870's and is still a working plantation with crops of cane, salt, rum, cattle and real estate holdings. The old plantation house was destroyed by an earlier hurricane so we stayed in the impeccably restored overseer's cottage and sat on the dock of the bay where we fed bread to the alligators (and swatted mosquitoes). Our deep sea fishing trip was cancelled due to a series of mechanical problems with our chartered boat which was a secret relief for poor sailor, DL.
So, I'm back now but I'm still cleaning up construction debris and getting ready for my next jaunt - a trip to Los Angeles for the Daytime Emmys. (a very long, complicated story - too detailed to venture into here.)
Hope all is well with my possums!
P.S. The only bummer of the trip? The Shrimpers are on strike and fresh shrimp was thin on the ground.
P.P.S. We were in our Albuquerque hotel room on Saturday night after dinner here and guess who was on the B roll during Geraldo Rivera's report on town halls/tea parties? Yours truly during my close brush with a deranged moonbat. Freaked me right out. NOT a good feeling to see your mug on national TV. Just saying. The L&M just sighed, rolled over and said "if we get audited, I know who to blame." Ha-ha. I hope.
Safe travels

Thanks Al - we drove down to NOLA from CO and it was a beautiful (and safe) trip.
Thank YOU, Ray for all you do for the Northern CO Tea Parties. (I am looking forward to enjoying your book.)
Cheers - Dinah
