Remember Andrew Warren, the the CIA of station that got busted in Algeria for alleged rapes? Al Qaeda is jumping on the bandwagon.
From AKI:
A new message purportedly from Al-Qaeda accuses Algeria's president Abdelaziz Bouteflika (photo) of betraying his country by allowing a CIA agent accused of raping two women while he was stationed there to return home.
"O beloved nation, what more do you want these rulers to do to make you to speak with one voice and say 'enough'!" said the message posted to Islamist websites.
"Doesn't this scandal prove to you that Bouteflika and his government are no different from that of Hamid Karzai in Afghanistan or Nouri al-Maliki's in Iraq?" the message said.
The CIA has said one of its agents has returned to the United States after being accused last September of committing the two rapes in Algeria.
The scandal could take its toll on Bouteflika's prospects in polls taking place on 9 April. He is running for election to a third presidential term.
The Strategy Page is reporting this about Mr. Warren.
The CIA has removed its station chief in Algeria, Andrew Warren, after he was accused of drugging and raping two women. Warren, a convert to Islam, is one of the more successful CIA counter-terror operatives, because he speaks Arabic and mixes it up with local Moslems in mosques and has a remarkable ability to keep track of local Islamic politics. The charges are a bit murky, and there is suspicion this is a ploy to keep Warren from finding out too much about scandalous behavior by Algerian officials.
An Algerian source, Ennahar Online addresses the identity of one of the women and the circumstances surrounding the purported attack. Sounds plenty hinky to me:
According to information on this lady, whose identity was not revealed by the U.S. authorities, this latter occupies an important position in a company specialized in communications and general relations in Egypt. She maintains relations with dubious political and economic personalities in the Egyptian government. What made her go into a spying war with the head of the CIA, but around a table full of whiskey during the month of Ramadhan.
Each party tried to get information from the other, the Algerian Spanish woman worked seemingly on behalf of her Jewish spouses to obtain information on the threats and the evolution of “El Qaida in Islamic Maghreb” in Algeria. While the head of the CIA tried to exploit the lady’s sources in Cairo and in Algeria in order to spy on some Egyptian and Algerian personalities in relations with that woman.
It is also proved that this lady is an alcohol professional and she had been seen drinking alcohol in Ramadhan. This brings doubts on her accusations that she was drugged and then raped by the CIA while she paid him a visit in his home.
Investigations by the U.S. showed that the U.S. CIA Chief was known for his discipline and no bad behaviour has been registered against him. He was also known for his professionalism in making his job. He had visited several mosques in the countries where he worked for the CIA such as Algeria, Egypt and Afghanistan.
