We were informed, unofficially, that Bruno died accidentally during interrogation at a U.S. base in the south of Hungary.

Carlos concluded by reminding the president of his own Muslim grandfather, Hussein Onyango Obama, who converted to Islam in the 1950s after having been imprisoned and tortured in Kenya by the British during the Mau Mau rebellion.

Somalia: French warship captures 19 Somali pirates.

Heh.  Look at the pirates with their hands all up in the air.  Love it.

A French warship Sunday foiled attempts by Somalian pirates in the Gulf of Aden to seize two cargo vessels and intercepted 19 people, the French president's office said.

"Three days after a French vessel thwarted an attack on a Panamanian cargo ship" the frigate Jean de Vienne conducted a "decisive action" against "two new attacks" it said in a statement.

"The 19 Somali pirates who tried to seize the two boats were intercepted," it added, saying they carried weapons, ammunition and material for boarding ships.

"They will be transferred to the Somali authorities," it added.

The French defence ministry said pirates attempted to attack a Croatian and a Panamanian ship and that French forces seized assault rifles, two rocket launchers, and more than 1,000 litres of oil.

Belgium: Police find Muslim hit list of prominent jews

List found during raid on "homes of local Muslim community members".

Jewish-French philosopher Bernard Henri-Levy was listed by a Belgium-based Islamist group as a target for assassination alongside other leading Jewish personalities in Europe, the Belgian daily La Derniere Heure reported earlier this week.

The planned assassination was apparently thwarted after group leader Abdelkader Belliraj, a Belgian of Moroccan ascent, was arrested last February in Morocco, the newspaper reported. Belgian authorities found the list during a raid on homes of local Muslim community members last November, according to the report.

The hit list mentioned the names of five other well-know Jewish figures in Belgium and France: Josy Eisenberg, producer of the A Bible ouverte (Open Bible) television program on FR2; Simone Susskind, a leader of Belgium's secular Jewish community; attorney Markus Pardes, president of the International Association of Jewish lawyers and jurists; Belgian writer Jean-Claude Bologne and La Derniere Heure reporter Edmond Blattche.

Belliraj is scheduled for trial next week over charges of assassinating and orchestrating the murders of six people in Belgium during 1980s, as well as for charges of arms trafficking.

Somalia: French warship intercepts pirates.

Good.  But turning them over to the Somali authorities.  Not good.

A French warship foiled a raid by Somali pirates on a cargo ship in the Gulf of Aden, arresting eight suspects, France's military command said Thursday.

The Premier Maitre L'Her, a French frigate patrolling the waters as part of a European Union taskforce, intercepted the would-be pirates after twice responding to a distress call from the Panamanian-flagged S. Venus.

On the first occasion, the pirates had taken flight, navy captain Christophe Prazuck, spokesman for France's general staff told AFP.

The second time around the French frigate spotted two light vessels near the cargo ship, which the crew of the cargo ship identified as the pirates' assault craft, he added.

The French vessel intercepted the boats and arrested eight Somalis on board, confiscating six AK47 assault rifles, a rocket-launcher and rockets, a grappling hook and two boarding ladders.

The French were heading for the Somali coast to hand them over to "the authorities," said Prazuck.

Paris: Explosives found at Department Store

The Printemps Haussmann store was evacuated and cordoned off, and police directed traffic away from the area.

French news agency AFP received a letter signed by a group calling itself the Afghan Revolutionary Front, warning of "several bombs" placed in the store.

President Nicolas Sarkozy urged caution in reacting to the incident. There was no detonator linked to the explosives.

"All we can do is to be prudent and moderate," Mr Sarkozy said at a news conference in the European Parliament.

How prudent or moderate would you have been if the explosives have gone off, mon cher?

"If you do not send someone to intervene before Wednesday December 17, they will explode," said its letter, which was taken by police investigating the explosives.

"Send the message to your president that he must withdraw his troops from our country before the end of February 2009 or else we will take action in your capitalist department stores and this time, without warning."

Glad to hear no one was injured and that the MUSLIM plot was foiled.

France: Court restores non-virgin Muslim to married state

A French appeals court overturned on Monday a ruling by a lower tribunal that had annulled the marriage of two Muslims because the bride had lied about being a virgin.

The marriage was annulled earlier this year when a court held that the woman had lied over what is called in French law an "essential quality," in this case her virginity. It ruled that the marriage contract was therefore invalid.

The case sparked outrage in both feminists and human rights activists, who were shocked that a court could consider virginity an "essential quality." Some politicians also expressed concern that conservative Muslim values were creeping into French law.

The couple, a computer specialist in his 30s and a trainee nurse in her 20s, were married in 2006 in the northern French city of Lille, but the husband rejected his wife after discovering on the wedding night that she was not a virgin.

The ruling Monday means that the marriage, which neither husband nor wife wished to continue, stands. After initially resisting the annulment, the woman consented and the marriage was annulled in April.

Now they have to get divorced.

Taliban threaten to attack Paris-

Will it work?  It might.  Obama will be turning tail and fleeing Iraq.  Next, you find him inching away from Afghanistan and Pakistan as quickly as he can reasonably manage.  In fact, I'm looking for the whole of Christendom to go into retreat mode.  (Hat tip to Gateway Pundit.)

The Taliban threatened to launch attacks in Paris unless France withdraws from Afghanistan, in a video aired by Al Arabiya television on Monday.  The video also claimed an ambush that killed 10 French troops in August was carried out by the Taliban. It was not clear when the recording was made.

"We have killed 10 French soldiers today as a message to the French so that they rectify their mistakes and withdraw from Afghanistan, and if they don't they will hear our response in Paris," said Mullah Farouq, identified as the commander of the unit that raided the French troops, on the video. His remarks were dubbed into Arabic by the station.

The video included footage of what appeared to be a French armored unit being stalked by Taliban fighters. Some insurgents were later shown wearing uniforms of the French soldiers they had killed.
