Guess who's getting a Missile Defense system?

Apparently, President Obama has no problem leaving our allies, Poland and the Czech Republic, defenseless and in the lurch but he's cool with this so-called 'moderate' Islamic country defending themselves.

Turkey to buy missile defence system. 

Turkey's military on Friday said it was planning to spend close to US$1 billion (S$1.44 billion) for its first long-range missile defence system.

The Turkish announcement came a day after US President Barack Obama cancelled a long-planned missile shield for Eastern Europe, replacing a Bush-era project that was opposed by Russia with a plan he contended would better defend against Iranian missiles.

Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu said Turkey's move was aimed at strengthening the country's defence, rejecting media speculation that the system is meant specifically to protect the country from Iranian missiles.

'Turkey's purchase of Patriot (missiles) has nothing to do with Iran or directly with any other country,' Mr Davutoglu told CNN-Turk television in an interview on Friday. 'There should absolutely be no connection between Patriots and Iran.'

Unh-huh.  Right.  The Strategy Page has some additional info about the systems being purchased.  Funny how the Russians aren't getting all exercised about these missiles, isn't it??? 

Perhaps because they are too busy testing ways to smuggle them into Iran...

Or perhaps because they're too busy playing all coy about their sale (currently 'frozen') of the S-300 defense system to the Iranians.  If Russia's freeze thaws on these missiles all bets are off.  Israeli MP says S-300 missiles may force airstrike on Iran.

Or perhaps they are just too darn too busy playing our President for the inexperienced fool he apparently is.   For his part, President Obama has sent his all his little aides out with their talking points about 'cost concerns'. 

Make me barf.

India: England's Badminton team threatened by Muslim terror group L-e-T

England has withdrawn from the World Badminton Championships in India after a Muslim terrorist threat was made against the competition.

The eight-strong squad, including Olympic silver medallist Nathan Robertson, has pulled out of the Hyderabad tournament, which starts tomorrow, following reports of a threat by extremist group Lashkar-e-Taiba.

Badminton England chief executive Adrian Christy said: 'This was an incredibly tough decision and one we didn't take lightly.

UK: Police arrest 31 at protest against Islamic Fundamentalism

More than 30 people were arrested today after disorder broke out during a demonstration billed as a protest against Islamic fundamentalism.

A total of 31 people were detained in Birmingham city centre during the event, which is believed to have been organised on social networking sites.

A West Midlands Police spokesman said the arrests were made at various locations during the protest and a counter-demonstration organised by the Unite Against Fascism group.

The spokesman also confirmed that a car had been damaged during what she described as 'sporadic' outbreaks of disorder in the city centre.

Witnesses said scores of officers were involved in policing the rival protests, which had gathered near Birmingham's Bullring shopping complex.

Police had vowed to deal robustly with anyone acting outside the law at the protests.

Police believe the anti-fundamentalist rally was organised by groups calling themselves the English and Welsh Defence League and Casuals United, which is said to have emerged after British soldiers were abused by Islamic radicals at a homecoming parade in Luton.

An eyewitness reports: 

Gary Nichols watched the disturbances from his city centre flat and said he was unable to go outside for about two and a half hours.

He told the BBC: "It started off with a group of white guys who were chanting, 'England, England'. I thought they were just football fans, but then a larger group of black and Asian people turned up and it all kicked off.

"You had people burning the Union flag. People were being kicked - some of them weren't anything to do with the protests. It all seemed to be very systematic - groups were arriving in cars and getting involved in the violence."

West Midlands police say two protests took place Saturday. Police said they believed one unauthorized protest against Islamic fundamentalism was organized by a group called the English and Welsh Defence League or Casuals United. Police said they were not officially informed of the protest.

Another authorized protest was organized by the group Unite Against Fascism that had cooperated with the police in planning the event.

A group calling itself the Aryan Martyrs' Brigade has issued threats including a "death warrant" sent to Weyman Bennett, the joint secretary of Unite Against Fascism, stating he will be killed before the end of the year "for crimes against all loyal white patriots and British nationalists".

The threat, which the police are investigating and has a picture of Bennett in cross hairs, states: "We know exactly what you look like and what venues you frequent and can strike at will. The police, special branch, MI5, Searchlight cannot save you from the bullets coming your way. No matter where you are, we will get you, all we need is a lock on your mobile phone signal and you are one dead nigger."

The increase in rightwing violence comes after Scotland Yard admitted it was deploying more resources to monitor far-right extremists amid fears of a terrorist attack. Commander Shaun Sawyer told a meeting organised by the Muslim Safety Forum last month that there was a growing threat from the far right.

"I fear they will have a spectacular …they will carry out an attack that will lead to a loss of life or injury to a community somewhere," he said.

You mean like the Islamos have been doing for centuries?

Anders Fogh Rasmussen said on Monday he would pay close attention to religious sensibilities in his new role as NATO chief in comments aimed at allaying Muslim concern at his appointment.

Turkey had threatened to veto the former Danish prime minister's appointment over his handling of a 2006 crisis triggered by cartoons of Prophet Mohammad in a Danish newspaper.

His comments at an Istanbul conference on Monday fell short of the outright apology which Turkish officials had hoped for.

"I was deeply distressed that the cartoons were seen by many Muslims as an attempt by Denmark to mark and insult or behave disrespectfully towards Islam or the Prophet Mohammad. Nothing could be further from my mind," he said

"I respect Islam as one of the world's major religions as well as its religious symbols," he said during a panel discussion at the conference aimed at building bridges between the Muslim world and the West."

We are just so screwed.

Obama: "The US is not and never will be at war at Islam."

 Then he throws the Armenians under the bus... and refuses to say the "G" word.

Barack Obama, making his first visit to a Muslim nation as president, declared Monday the United States "is not and will never be at war with Islam."

Calling for a greater partnership with the Islamic world in an address to the Turkish parliament, Obama called the country an important U.S. ally in many areas, including the fight against terrorism. He devoted much of his speech to urging a greater bond between Americans and Muslims, portraying terrorist groups such as al Qaida as extremists who did not represent the vast majority of Muslims.

"Let me say this as clearly as I can," Obama said. "The United States is not and never will be at war with Islam. In fact, our partnership with the Muslim world is critical ... in rolling back a fringe ideology that people of all faiths reject."

Al Jazeera and Al Arabiyia, two of the biggest Arabic satellite channels, carried Obama's speech live.

Obama said the partnership between the U.S. and the Muslim world is critical in rolling back what he called a fringe ideology that people of all faiths reject.  "America's relationship with the Muslim world cannot and will not be based on opposition to al Qaida," he said. "We seek broad engagement based upon mutual interests and mutual respect."

"We will convey our deep appreciation for the Islamic faith, which has done so much over so many centuries to shape the world for the better, including my own country," Obama said.

Obama also said, to a round of applause, that the United States supports Turkey becoming a member of the European Union.

And then he threw the Armenians smartly under the bus.

Mr . Obama was asked by a Chicago Tribune reporter about his position, as a senator, that Turkey should recognize the genocide committed against the Armenian people by the Ottoman empire during and after World War I, and whether he'd urged President Gul to acknowledge the genocide. This is an extremely sensitive topic, given Turkey's refusal to use the word "genocide" when discussing its past systematic slaughter of Armenians.

"My views are on the record and I have not changed my views," the president said.

That said, he sidestepped the issue saying that "under President Gul's leadership, a series of negotiations and a process has been put in place between Armenia and Turkey to resolve a whole host of issues including that one." 

Thus, Mr. Obama said, he did not want to focus on his views, allowing the Turkey-Armenia deliberations to continue on their own.

About that G- word:

President Barack Obama, steering a delicate course on an explosive issue here, said today that his views on the mass killings of Armenians by Ottoman Turks early in the last century had not changed, but avoided using the word "genocide" in front of his Turkish hosts.

According to Obama administration spokesman all acts of genocide, past and future,  are to be referred to as "unfortunate kitten incidents" going forward.  /do I really need this tag?

UK: Terror suspects get job benefits.

And then there are the benefits their families recieve from charities like "Helping Households Under Great Stress".

TERROR suspects under house arrest are claiming up to £60.50 a week in ­Jobseeker’s Allowance.

In the latest example of ­soft-touch Britain, 22 out of 23 extremists who applied for the state benefit received it.  Yet none of them is available for work. Severe restrictions are placed on their ­movement because they are deemed a risk to national security.

The taxpayer-funded handouts last night sparked outrage among politicians and campaign groups who said it was yet another reminder of why extremists hellbent on ­destroying Western civilisation make a beeline for Britain.

Tory MP Patrick Mercer, a former Army officer and chairman of the Commons counter-terrorism subcommittee, said: “Surely this is nonsense. If they are under control orders they will not be seeking jobs. “All we are doing is pouring more taxpayers’ money into a ­bottomless pit. In times of economic crisis, this will infuriate hard-pressed people.”

The Home Office admits all but one of 23 suspects who claimed the benefit were successful. In a case that calls into question whether Government departments talk to each other, the Department for Work and Pensions says that people can only receive Jobseeker’s Allowance if they show they are “capable of working, available for work and actively seeking work”.

Suspects’ ­families often also get financial help from charities such as Helping Households Under Great Stress, an Islamic group supporting families affected by terror arrests.

Apart from benefits, suspects are a drain on ­Britain because of surveillance costs. Their social contacts have to be monitored and there are restrictions on how many ­people they can associate with at any one time.

The TaxPayers’ Alliance has put the cost to Britain of bankrolling Islamic preachers of hate at £5million.

Hook-handed Abu Hamza alone cost £2.75million. He is now facing deportation to the US. And Al Qaeda’s Europe ­envoy, Abu Qatada, 48, who arrived here on a false ­passport in 1993 but was allowed to preach hate from his west London home, is estimated to have cost £1.4million already. He is back in jail, fighting deportation to Jordan.  The ­legal battle could take years, costing the taxpayer even more, while his family in the UK are on annual benefits ­estimated at £47,000.

Sheikh Tarhuni (hafidhahullaah) was asked about this and he said the following;

"There is no harm in sisters writing to the brothers as long as the sister doesn't identify herself by name, she may give a general name like Umm Nasr, Umm Ya'qoob something like that, as we understand the Prophet sallalaahu 'alayhi wa sallam informed us of the seriousness of men and woman relations, therefore when a sister writes a letter to a brother in prison, with good intentions, for example, to ease his burden or to help his eemaan (faith), and he knows this sister then attachment will grow. I know of some stories about sisters who would stay single and refuse to marry as they were waiting for years and years for brothers to be released from the prison so that they can marry them this was from writing letters to them. So if a sister wants to contribute and strengthen eemaan insha'Allah without giving her real name then insha'Allah this deed will be accepted by Allah, and Allah knows best."

On Monday, the UK's Evening Standard, at its "This Is London" site, matter-of-factly noted the following in the final sentenceof its report about President Obama's upcoming European trip (bold is mine):

"Accompanying the party will be a total of 500 officials including kitchen staff, 35 vehicles in all, four speech writers and 12 teleprompters."

A Google News Search on "12 teleprompters" (not in quotes) from March 30 - April 5 came back with all of 15 results (Google's total results returned claim of 24 at the link is incorrect).
