Update 7:17pm: Per WABC.
Bedford Town Supervisor Lee Roberts says Gaddafi's son had the tent put back up this afternoon so he could eat and take pictures there.
(I wonder...is it the maid beater or is it the one that our US State Department is giving $200,000 to?)
5:40 pm: Fox News Channel just reported that the "State Department made a call this afternoon." (no link - yet)
The AP doesn't mention that in its report.
Bedford officials arrived at the home Thursday evening with a stop-work order and a criminal summons after learning the tent was up again.
A Libyan official says it's legal to put up the tent. He called it a symbol of Libyan leader Moammar Gadhafi. Officials first said that Gadhafi would arrive at the tent but later said he wasn't coming.
LoHud.com checks in with this information:
<---Moammar's happy campers?
"Apparently that was just a temporary gesture by the north Africa dictator because as of about 5:30 tonight the tent was back and a small group of men were camped outside it around a fire."
"The first whiff that Gadhafi had no intention of staying away came this afternoon from Bedford town attorney Joel Sachs who said town officials had heard from a "governmental source" (ed, note: Can you say state department?) that Gadhafi might have been planning to re-erect the tent and hold a reception on the property."
"All I know is that the attorney for the government of Libya has evidently advised the Libyan government that the town's zoning requirements don't apply," Sachs told The Journal News this afternoon, before the tent reappeared. "We don't agree."
