I have been keeping half an eye on this story so it wasn't until this morning that I happened to hear that the runaway pilot Adam Leon, was a native of Turkey and that he was formerly known as Yavuz Berke (or Burke depending on the report) who just became a Canadian citizen last year.
Taylor and Company is all over the Canadian media taking out their dhimmi scrub bush and busily scrubbing any and all mentions of his previous name and nationality out of their reports. (He also makes some excellent suggestions for future runaway pilots to allow them to avoid the ignominy of Mr. Berke's fate.)
The perp. The perp. (But why is this poor lost soul - smirking?-->
CNN has this about Mr. Leon/Berke/Burke's capture:
The pilot reportedly stole a small Cessna 172 aircraft from a Canadian flight school, flew hundreds of miles across the Midwest, landed on a dirt road in Missouri late Monday and took off on foot, federal officials said.
Federal, state and local authorities launched a manhunt for the pilot, who was identified by the FBI as Adam Leon, 31, a native of Turkey who became a Canadian citizen last year, according to FBI spokesman Richard Kolko. He was formerly known as Yavuz Berke, though officials did not indicate a reason for the name change.
He was taken into custody at an Ellsinore grocery story after a brief manhunt, according to Missouri state police and the Royal Canadian Mounted Police.
A federal law enforcement source said the pilot parked the plane under what appeared to be a bridge or culvert, apparently in an attempt to hide it.
In this report Mr. Leon/Berke/Burke is just another poor lost soul.
ABC said Canadian officials told U.S. officials Burke had been treated Friday for depression, and that he left a good-bye note for his girlfriend.
Not that lost. He bought something to drink and waited 35 minutes for the police to arrive. (And if he was so hellbent on suicide then why did he land with 30 minutes worth of fuel still in the tank.)
The FBI and FAA are interviewing him now, but have already said he wasn't a terrorist so go back to sleep sheeple. It's sounding like he will just be released back into the custody of Canadian authorities.
(He could be a poor, lost, soul, I don't know - it still smells to me. And I hate that because of the actions of a few dirty, rotten Muslims that I would have reason to doubt this guy and that this kind of suspicious thought even crosses my mind. )
Can you say trial run?????? Think MATTHIAS RUST (may 87?) with really evil intent. This guy just showed up a serious weakness that could be easily copied but with more lethal results. We were running around scared witless about crop dusters or light planes used as missiles.
Or the guy is just nuts...and still demonstrated a simple weakness

Imagine for a moment a light plane distributing a bioweapon as it flies, e.g., anthrax spores. Or a chemical weapon. Now imagine it flies over a more populated area. Or the water supply of a more populated area. It does look more like a trial run than an attempted suicide.

Just a poor depressed Muslim taking a joy ride. Who's paying for the 8-hour Air Force escort? Maybe the upstanding Canadian flight school allowing easy access of its planes to well mannered mature Mohammeds?

Thanks for the comments, folks.
I had completely forgotten about Matthias Rust, Ceb 6. And Janice, I was all set to give el Smirko the benefit of the doubt until I saw that mugshot. You're right - those SOB's always seem to put on a smug, shit eating grin for the jail photographer. And ManekiNeko, this was definitely more of a trial run, paid for by the US taxpayer, Jake. Rick - I second that emotion, friend.
Wait til he is released back to Canada and they put him in group therapy for 6 weeks and then let him back into the general population. All better now, he'll say. As for me, I'd give him something to be depressed about...he should have to pay for all security and law enforcement expenses incurred as a result of his little "depressed ride" (as opposed to a 'joy ride').

Well, now the Jihadis know for sure to what extent will the US react to a stolen plane being flown across the United States.
This was the exact same thing the 9-11 hijackers did. Trial runs and probes for the weakest points in the system to maximize their chance of success.

Most accounts would have us believe a 31 y.o. male Muslim immigrant is distraught about a lost love and decides to end it all. Of course, he drives to the local airport and happens to find a Cessna 172 fully fueled and ready with the keys in the magneto switch. How lucky for our hero! So he departs on a meandering course until he picks up a couple of F-16s whose attention he has managed to capture, then flys a peculiar route that happens to be precisely magnetic south until imminent fuel starvation forces him to land. He proceeds to the nearest convenience store for a bottle of Gatorade and awaits his ride back into town. When arrested he seems almost giddy with excitement and tells his story about trying to get himself shot down by an F-16. It all just makes so much sense, doesn’t it?
Has 9-11 taught us nothing? We MUST be suspicious and relentless in pursuit of the truth. But, we certainly don't want to cause any bad feelings with our Muslim friends, so this will likely be dismissed and covered-up post haste.
